About CFTOA

Welcome to the Central Florida Track Officials Association (CFTOA).

CFTOA was formed in 2008 by a group of Central Florida officials who wanted to improve track officiating in Florida at all levels of competition. This organization is open to all track & field officials who are/or will be registered and certified, and in good standing, with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), United States Track and Field Association (USATF) and/or collegiate track & field certifying bodies.

CFTOA’s mission is:

1.  To encourage and develop competent officiating of track & field and cross country meets by providing educational opportunities for officials to learn and properly interpret the rules governing track & field and cross country.

2.   To seek officiating opportunities where members can develop their skills at all levels of track & field and cross country competition.

Our members are provided learning opportunities through classroom and hands-on clinics held at various time each year and training material gathered from sources such as USATF, NCAA and NFHS. Our major Training Day is held in conjunction with the Association Annual Meeting which is scheduled in January or early February each year.

Mentoring is a major part of our development program. Each new member is assigned (whenever possible) with one or more of our more experienced members at track meets to allow for the passing on of rules and techniques for running an event.

All members act as Independent Contractors for any and all meets they work. CFTOA works in conjunction with the FHSAA to provide officials for State Series Meets. CFTOA also contracts with certain school districts and/or individual schools to assign officials to their meets. For all other meets, we will provide you with a list of meets and you communicate with the contact person to determine their needs, schedule and pay scale. Officials are free to choose or decline any officiating opportunities.

At present we have over 100 members in our Association. Many are both FHSAA and USATF certified. However, officials are only required to be a member of one of these organizations to be a member of CFTOA. Currently, there is no certification for NCAA.

Our members support track and field competition for FHSAA, NCAA, USATF (youth, masters and open competitions) and AAU.
